EFT For Physical Pain
If you are someone who is experiencing pain in any shape and for any reason - it is important to examine the emotions and feelings you are experiencing. Emotions have the ability to exacerbate or reduce the sensation of pain. Start by asking yourself a few questions:
Where are you experiencing the pain in your body?
When did the pain first start?
What was going on in your life at that time?
Who were you spending time with during this time?
What are your feelings about having to deal with this pain?
If there was a benefit to having this pain, what would it be?
The answers to these question are a great starting point for exploring the origin of your pain, and determining what emotions are in the mix. It's the beginning of a self-discovery process that may just reveal more than you ever thought possible.
There are a variety of different approaches you can take when starting this process. If you are having a flare up, perhaps you begin by just tapping and breathing. Focus on really filling the belly up with air, and completely exhaling with each breath. Doing this for multiple rounds of tapping will help in calming the nervous system.
From here you could choose to add in a phrase like "I invite in a feeling calm and being at ease." Continue to tap and breathe and say that phrase or another of your choosing.
Another option is to start by tuning into the sensations you are experiencing. Define the intensity on a scale of 1-10, and tap on each point while describing the pain. That could look something like "This burning, fiery sensation in my neck." Get as descriptive as possible. Notice how the pain shifts, or if any memories start to emerge. Change your verbiage as necessary to address the thoughts that arise.
From here, you can think back to when the pain started. And describe what was going on in your life at that time. Tap on the memories and any emotions that surface as you continue to move through this process.
